Frequently asked questions

What is EMSTIGHT?

EMSTIGHT is a range of K-Beauty-inspired EMS microcurrent facial devices organised by treatment area: Eyes, Cheeks, Forehead, Eyes + Cheeks, Full Upper Face and Full Face.

Which EMSTIGHT device should I choose?

For a single focused area, choose the Eye Patches, the Cheek Patches or the Forehead Patches — all three are the same price, so the choice is simply where you want to treat.

For more than one area at once, choose Eye + Cheek Patches for expanded mid-face coverage, Eye, Cheek + Forehead Patches for a coordinated upper-face routine, or the Face Mask for the broadest full-face coverage worn over your own skincare.

How long does a routine take?

Every EMSTIGHT device runs a 15-minute session and switches off on its own. The manufacturer does not recommend running a device for longer than fifteen minutes at a time. Follow the instructions included with your exact model for confirmed timing, placement and operating guidance.

What does K-Beauty-inspired mean?

It refers to the philosophy behind the experience: skincare-first thinking, consistent ritual and a glass-skin-inspired approach to a radiant-looking complexion. It does not imply Korean manufacture or origin.

Do I need a serum or gel?

It depends which device you have.

The patch devices work without serum or gel. The hydrogel patches are conductive on their own, so nothing needs to be applied underneath them.

The Face Mask is designed to be worn over your own skincare, and its manual gives two ways to do it. You can put your own sheet mask on and place an EMS Sheet Mask on top of it. Or you can apply your usual moisturising lotion, dampen an EMS Sheet Mask with pure water, and smooth that onto your face. Either way the EMS Sheet Mask is the conductive layer that carries the current, not a treatment mask in itself — which is why it always sits on top of whatever you have chosen to wear underneath.

Whichever device you have, follow the instructions supplied with it, and do not add products unless the guide confirms they are suitable.

Where can the cheek patches be worn?

The cheek patch is the most versatile in the range, because its broad fan shape follows more than one contour. It is worn across the cheek and mid-face, and the same patch can be repositioned to follow the smile lines and the area around the mouth, the jawline, and under the jaw onto the upper neck.

Two limits always apply. Never place a patch on the lips or inside the mouth. And when you use it on the neck, keep it beneath and behind the jaw — never on the front of the throat, away from the windpipe and the pulse points at the front of the neck.

Is the forehead patch a pair?

No. The forehead is the only area in the range covered by a single wide patch rather than a handed left-and-right pair. It spans the brow in one placement, so there is nothing to line up. Replacement forehead patches are sold as a single piece for the same reason.

What happens when the patches wear out?

The host unit and remote control are reusable and recharge over USB. The hydrogel patches are the consumable part — with repeated use they lose their grip on the skin and their conductivity drops together, so a session begins to feel weaker or the patch stops sitting flat.

Replacement patches are sold separately at £19 for each area — a handed pair for the eye and cheek areas, and a single wide patch for the forehead. How long they last depends mostly on how clean the skin is when you apply them: every trace of oil, makeup, SPF or moisturiser the patch lifts off your skin stays in the gel. Return each patch to its backing film after use and keep them somewhere cool and dark.

How many times can I use an EMS Sheet Mask?

Up to three times each, if it is looked after carefully. The EMSTIGHT Microcurrent Face Mask arrives with five EMS Sheet Masks in the box, so a single box covers up to fifteen sessions.

After a session, rinse the sheet gently in cool water. Do not scrub it, and do not fold or stretch the silver conductive tracks — those tracks carry the current across the face, and once they are scratched, creased or lifted the sheet stops conducting evenly. Lay it flat to air dry, away from direct heat and sunlight, and store it dry.

Replace a sheet when it no longer sits flat against the skin, when the silver tracks look damaged, or when a session feels weaker than usual. Sheets are for one person's use only, and a sheet that has been used on broken or irritated skin should not be reused.

Can I buy more EMS Sheet Masks?

Yes. Replacement EMS Sheet Masks are sold separately in packs of five at £19, so the device keeps working long after the first box is used up.

As with the patch devices, the host unit is not a consumable — it is reusable and recharges over USB. The EMS Sheet Mask is the part that wears out.

Are EMSTIGHT devices suitable for everyone?

No. EMSTIGHT devices are not suitable for anyone under 15, and those over 15 should use them under the supervision of a parent.

Do not use these devices at all if you have an implanted electronic medical device such as a pacemaker or defibrillator, an artificial heart or lung, or if you wear a medical electronic instrument such as an ECG monitor or heart-rate regulator.

Speak to a doctor before using if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; have a heart condition, abnormal blood pressure or a cranial nerve abnormality; have a malignant tumour; have an infectious or acute illness, or have been advised to rest; are taking medication, or have a temperature above 38°C; have abnormal bleeding; have sensory nerve loss, cognitive impairment, or reduced sensation caused by diabetic circulatory problems; have a skin disease, skin dysfunction or a skin infection; have a known allergy to electrode pads; or are unable to communicate discomfort.

Do not use while intoxicated or while feeling unwell. Stop immediately if you feel any discomfort or if the skin becomes red or itchy.

These devices are cosmetic beauty devices. They are not medical devices and are not intended for any medical purpose. If you are uncertain whether one is suitable for you, seek qualified medical advice before use.

Where should the patches not be placed?

Use the patches only on the areas shown in the instructions supplied with your device — around the eye, on the cheek and jaw, and on the forehead. The eye patches sit on the skin around the eye socket. They never go on the eye itself.

Never place a patch on the eyes, on the lips or inside the mouth, on any mucous membrane, on the genitals, on the head, over the front of the throat, or directly over the heart. Do not use on broken, irritated or unhealed skin, over a site where you have had plastic surgery, on skin treated for hair removal the same day, or on the abdomen during a period.

Clean and dry the skin first, and press the patch down so the whole hydrogel surface is in contact. A patch left with an air gap concentrates the current in one place and can produce a sharp or stinging sensation.

The device does not run while it is charging.
